Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

In an effort to maintain confidentiality and the quality of our care, we do not take insurance, but we work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. You can sign up using this link.

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist we do not benefit in any way from your participation.

How often should I come to therapy?

The frequency of therapy depends on your current needs and can fluctuate over time. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend beginning with consistent weekly therapy sessions as momentum builds and you begin to see progress. Over time, sessions generally taper down to every other week, and then monthly, until termination.

How long will therapy last?

It depends (don’t you love vague answers?). It is likely the precipitating events and issues which prompt you to seek out treatment in the first place, probably did not evolve overnight. They often have built up over time - months, years, and even over the course of a lifetime - and therefore cannot be expected to resolve in a short period of time. Although therapy isn’t guaranteed to achieve your goals, what you generally can anticipate is to see progress and smaller day-to-day wins over the course of treatment as you work towards your ultimate goals. Therapy is a process - it does take time and cannot be rushed to gain lasting results.

What can I expect from our first session?

Each therapist has their own style in terms of how they conduct their first sessions, but lets introduce the generalities of an initial session starting with the logistics. You will want to park and enter the building in the entrance and lot facing the main street (MacArthur Blvd). Our private entrance will be on your right before you come upon the main building doors. When you walk in, please use your therapist’s name to check in on the iPad. They will then come greet you in the lobby and take you back to the office. We are all about your comfort so please let us know if you have any special needs or requests to make your session more comfortable. This first session is largely an assessment session, so your therapist may ask you several questions and open it up to you to ask questions as well. They will get a better idea of how you work and collaborate with you to set your goals and inform you of the process.

What if I don’t want to talk about it?

Sometimes talking about it can be difficult, and what keeps people away from seeking the help they so desperately need. Our therapists are skilled in modalities that work beyond the traditional talk therapy model, and find healing without the need for narration. Some of these modalities include: Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Brainspotting, and Expressive Arts Therapies. You don’t have to talk about it!

Can I use HSA/FSA?

Absolutely!
